The Kipahulu 'Ohana is planning another building
session this weekend for our hale ku'ai near the NPS Visitor Center, with Kumu
Francis Sinenci and his students. We can always use extra hands. It is good fun
and a great opportunity to learn about traditional architecture
techniques.

Last weekend we finished
the fixed purlins, so this weekend we'll be finishing up other major pieces of
the framing and adding the floating purlins, and last step before thatching
begins.

On both Saturday and Sunday, we
plan to start around 9 or 10 in the morning and finish around 3 or 4 in the
afternoon. Lunch is provided, but items to bring include: water, work shoes or
tabis (something other than slippers), gloves, a shady hat, sunscreen, and
mosquito repellant.

If you would like
more information, directions, or want to let us know that you'll be there,
please give me a call at 248-8673 or email <a

how it looked on Saturday, as the top fixed purlin is tied in on the facing
side.

Here's

As a complement to this blog, I have created a
new email list as an easy way to stay connected with folks who have participated
in our projects over the years, or anyone who is interested, and let you know of
upcoming activities and events.

We
have ongoing workdays and other activities at Kapahu Living Farm, at the Hale
Ku'ai, and in the mauka forest, so we'll use this list to let folks in the area
know what's happening if they want to participate, and keep everyone informed of
what we're up to.

The list is
announcement only, not a discussion list, so responses will not be posted to the
list. And I'll try to keep the volume down to a reasonable level so it doesn't
overwhelm anyone's in-box.

Anyone is
welcome to join the list, and you can add yourself by sending a message
to:

<a
