Mahalo for following Kīpahulu ‘Ohana’s progress through our designation of the Kīpahulu Moku CBSFA. We have been working towards this designation since 2010.
On November 2 from 5:30-8:30pm, there is an important opportunity to determine the outcome of our CBSFA designation at a DAR-led Public Hearing.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME FOR OUR COMMUNITY TO SHOW UP.
This Hearing will be both virtual and in-person at Wānanalua Church Hall in Hāna. We encourage ‘ohana to testify together.
To provide online testimony: you will need a computer with internet access, video camera, and microphone, or a telephone. Register for online testimony here: https://tinyurl.com/kipahulu-cbsfa
For in-person testimony: you can sign up at Wānanalua Church on the day of.
For written testimony: email no later than Friday, November 10 to DLNR.Aquatics@hawaii.gov or mailed to Division of Aquatic Resources, 1151 Punchbowl Street, Room 330, Honolulu, HI 96813.
Here are some talking points to guide testimony:
1. Introduce yourself, who you represent, where you are from, how you are connected to Kīpahulu
2. Share specific comments about the designation or the rules. For example: I agree with the bag limit for ‘opihi because I think it will help prevent overharvesting
3. Close with a clear statement of support or ideas for how to improve. Even if you’re going to say I support everything in this plan, it’s important to attend!
Mahalo for your kōkua and solidarity,
Kīpahulu ‘Ohana
